Preparing for a military relocation is takes more than just getting your things packed. It takes planning and organization in order to have a successful move. However, most families don’t have the luxury of taking months to pack up all their stuff.

While moving time and again can be a whale of a chore, there are things you can actually do to make your PCS move much easier. Experienced military wives know that a successful military move takes planning and organization.

Start planning your move as soon as possible. Your first military move is not the best time to procrastinate. You need to start making plans as soon as you get your orders to get rid of the hassle. While report dates vary, they usually arrive two weeks after getting your orders or as long as five months. That will be enough to prepare for your move.

In most cases, you or your spouse will be asked to report sooner than later. If you want to manage unwanted stress, prepare for your PCS move as soon as possible.

To get through the stress of a military move, make sure that you are properly prepared by following these steps for a smooth PCS move to Corpus Christi TX:

1. Consult with your installation’s transportation office

The first step in your moving plan is to visit your installation’s transportation office. Your Transportation Office, sometimes called the Personal Property Office, will give you relocation briefing to let you know the details of your move. You will be oriented regarding the options you have when it comes to your move and what they will be able to do to help you.

Making a move to a new location can be stressful, especially if you have never lived out of state. The best thing about being in the U.S. is that most military bases have orientation offices that you can access online. 2. Decide what kind of move you’re going to have

If you go with a PPM, you can decide when the packers and movers come and go. Moreover, if you don’t end up using your entire budget, you can even make a little money.

3. Get rid of the stuff you don’t use

Especially if this is your first move, you may still be hanging on to things you do not really need or use. Go through your house and get rid of anything you won’t be needing anymore. It’s useless to spend time, money, and effort packing and transporting things that you don’t need or want.

You should also avoid accumulating more stuff before you move. If you need anything for your new home, do yourself a favor and wait until you get there. Your first PCS move will be a great opportunity to donate the third toaster you received as a wedding present or those baby clothes that your children have already outgrown.

4. Keep a list

You can also take small electronics to keep your children entertained until the cable in your new home is installed. If you have pets, remember also to pack paper plates, cups and items for them. You may also want to fill a cooler with sandwich fixings, drinks and snacks so you will not have to eat out until your refrigerator arrives in your new home.

You also need to pack all your family documents, your orders, prescriptions, passport and other important papers ahead of the movers arriving at your house. Doing this will make it easier for you to know where to find them when the time comes.
